São Paulo is the city with the biggest population in Brazil, in the American continent and the southern hemisphere.  It is the 14th most globalised city in the world, according to the Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network. It was the place where we find more Italians outside of Italy, more Japanese outside of Japan, more Portuguese outside of Portugal, more Spanish outside of Spain and more Lebanese outside of Lebanon. In addition, it is Latin America’s main financial centre.

Founded by Jesuits on the 25th of January 1554, it was named after a catholic saint. For two centuries, it was a poor and isolated village and only in 1683, the then Vila of São Paulo started to experience the development that four centuries later, would culminate in the grandeur it has today.

Alongside its economic relevance, the capital of the state of São Paulo offers a number of inexhaustible cultural and leisure attractions to visitors, among which, some of the most important museums in the country, surprising parks - like the Ibirapuera -, and a network of bars and restaurants that make the city stand out as gastronomy hub. Its hotel network offers approximately 46 thousand rooms, number that will be increased until 2014.
