Six Brazilian grounds are in the running for the ‘Stadium of the Year’ award from the StadiumDB website

Confederations Cup stages Castelão, Mineirão, Maracanã, Fonte Nova, Pernambuco Arena and Mané Garrincha are among the 16 contenders

The Polish website StadiumDB.com has opened up the public voting process to choose the Stadium of the Year in 2013. Among the 16 contenders, six were stadiums used at the Confederations Cup, held in Brazil in 2013: Castelão (Fortaleza), Mineirão (Belo Horizonte), Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro), Pernambuco Arena (Recife), Fonte Nova Arena (Salvador) e National Mané Garrincha Stadium (Brasilia).

According to the website, 18 stadiums with a seating capacity of over 10 thousand people were opened in 2013 and six of them are Brazilian. The list includes new and refurbished stadiums. The 2012 winner was the Gremio Arena in Porto Alegre, which got over 14 thousand votes from over 60 countries. This is the fourth edition of the award.

StadiumDB.com, based on Stadiony.net.com, is a Polish website that shows several aspects of football stadiums around the world, such as amounts invested, operational details and their background.
