The Dutch triumph was the first against Australia in history. Robben and Van Persie have scored three goals each through their team's first two matches
Expectations were high for the Dutch in this match after an incontestable 5-1 win over Spain in the first round of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014. But those expecting an easy match for the Dutch against Australia this Wednesday (18 June) in Porto Alegre were sorely mistaken. The Australians did not give in easily and gave the Dutch a run for their money, but in the end the Dutch prevailed and the score sheet closed with Netherlands 3 - 2 Australia.
The Dutch goals were scored by Robben, Van Persie and Memphis Depay. Tim Cahill scored Australia's first (and one of the most beautiful goals of the World Cup), with the second goal by Jedinak.
The Netherlands is now at six points in Group B, while Australia remains winless after two matches (it lost to Chile by 3-1). Both matches of the third and final round of group B will take place on 23 June at 1 PM: Netherlands vs. Chile at the Corinthians Arena, in Salvador, and Australia vs. Spain at the Baixada Arena in Curitiba.
